The medieval streets of Rethymno are buzzing with anticipation as the city prepares for its beloved carnival, one of the largest and most vibrant celebrations in Crete. The recent selection of this year's Carnival Queen has marked the official countdown to the festivities, sending a wave of excitement through the city's narrow alleyways and picturesque harbor.

Winter time in Crete is wonderful because the mountains are finally covered with green grass, unlike the scorched stones of summer. Often meet friends in other cities, go for a ride, eat in restaurants look at the street without crowds of tourists. The island’s windy coastline makes it an ideal destination for this water sport. I most often meet kite surfers at the end of autumn as windy weather sets in and the beaches are empty of tourists.

Crete has several spots suitable for kitesurfing. The most well-known locations are Elafonisi, Kouremenos Beach near Sitia, and Chrissi Akti near Chania. These beaches are known for their steady winds and open spaces, providing a safe environment for kitesurfers. But I took these photos on the beach of Rethymno, Crete. Next to the port there is a sandy beach with no underwater rocks, which makes it ideal for kitesurfing.
